Since election night ended and Guy Titus slid into victory with his slogan “He’s our Guy!,” Greenfield’s newest mayor has been getting acclimated to his new title. For Titus, becoming mayor is a dream 15 years in the making, and we are happy to welcome him into leadership here in Greenfield! Learn a little bit more about him in our interview below.

A mayor who loves his community

What do you love most about Greenfield?

GT: Greenfield has so many nice people who work together to provide great services to those in need. It has such a sense of community. We still have that small town feel, while having so much to offer. We have our own local hospital, we own our utilities and at an affordable rate as compared to other communities, good school system, many eating establishments, quality Police and Fire Departments, great parks and trails, the list can just go on. Plus, Indy is just a short drive away.

What motivated you to get involved with city government?

GT: I have been involved in City Government for many years as I have worked for Greenfield Power & Light for over 40 years. I served 4 terms on Center Township Board. I have served under 6 different Mayors.

What qualities do you think are important in an effective mayor?

GT: An effective mayor should be a good listener and serve the voters and community’s best interests. A good Mayor should have a long-range plan for the City’s future.

Who is your inspiration?

GT: My inspiration comes from the upbringing my parents gave me. I have been blessed with a great wife and two successful children, and that inspires me to give back. Treat people the way that you would like to be treated, and it will all work out.

What are your priorities for your administration?

GT: My priorities are to provide Greenfield with a safe community to live in with quality-of-life options available. A place that people will want to raise their families, and be proud to live here. I want to control the upcoming growth that is coming our way with quality development and housing. I plan to continue the growth and revitalization of our downtown and help Greenfield to become a destination that will attract visitors from all around. Continue improvements to our parks and infrastructure.

Outside of work, what do you like to do in your free time?

GT: I love to play golf and travel.

Last but not least, what are three things we might not know about you?

GT: I was a lineman for 30 years, I currently serve on Hancock Health Foundation Board and I have talked about running for mayor for 20 plus years.

We want to give a big thanks to Guy Titus for taking time to answer our questions. Best of luck to you during your term here in Greenfield!
