When it’s a hot summer day in the Midwest, a nice frosty root beer float is one of the best treats to cool you down! We’re rounding up some of the best local restaurants for root beer floats in Hancock County so you can cool off during some of the final days of summer.

Brew 52

Brew 52 is a coffee and ice cream shop in New Palestine serving up hand-crafted drinks, hand-scooped ice cream, gourmet shaved ice and even yummy baked goods. Their homemade root beer will make the perfect frosty float for a hot day.

Frosty Boy Drive-In

The Frosty Boy Drive-In has been a New Palestine institution since 1976, and in addition to their all-American savory meals they also serve up floats with any drink on the menu, including delicious root beer floats. Want a unique treat to go along with your float? Try a frosty pop, exclusively available at the Frosty Boy with any specific ice cream taste in mind for a no-mess custom dessert!

The Grill

The Grill in McCordsville is well-known for its old-fashioned root beer float made thick and frosty. They also recommend you try it with orange soda for a creamsicle float! As a hometown-owned and operated restaurant, The Grill is proud to serve families and children as they enjoy root beer floats and beyond in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Libby’s Ice Cream

With two locations in Hancock County, Libby’s Ice Cream serves super-premium homemade ice cream along with root beer floats. Check out their unique graffiti wall decor at the walk-up shop in Greenfield or the selection of gifts and toys available at the Main Street location in Fortville.

The Mug

The Mug is well-known in Greenfield for its best-tasting farm-to-curb “slow food” with both car hops that allow you to eat in your car, or in the welcoming eat-in dining area. On TripAdvisor, zzMomof5zz said of The Mug: “More than a root beer stand! The root beer is very good (FREE refills!) and is made even better as a float. Having a local farm-to-table restaurant with a fun atmosphere is an asset to this community.”

Culver’s

Culver’s may be a nationwide chain, but don’t discount their root beer float! With their signature Root Beer recipe, it’s great either straight from the tap or with a big scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream.

Dairy Queen Grill & Chill

Whether you’re in Greenfield or Fortville, you can always pick up a soda float at Dairy Queen, with your choice of any carbonated beverage, including Mug-brand root beer, swirled together with their tasty soft serve.
