Hancock County Public Library Events
The Hancock County Public Library is a great place to spend the cold winter months. In addition to books and technology you can use, the Greenfield and New Palestine branches also offer events for all ages. In January alone, your kids can make a pinecone snowman, your teens can help create window clings to redecorate the teen room at the Greenfield branch, and adults can participate in a brown bag book discussion led by Paul McNeil on Martha Wells’ book “All Systems Red.”
Wooden Bear Paint Party
Coming up on Jan. 19, visit the Wooden Bear Brewing Co. (located at 21 W North St in downtown Greenfield) for a fun night of great food, drinks and painting at the Wooden Bear Paint Party. All art supplies are provided for $30 entry fee, and other food/beverages are a separate cost with a one-drink minimum. The painting will be led in partnership with the Hancock County Creations Art Studio.
Talk a winter nature walk
Whether it’s super cold outside or we have a mild winter, taking a nature walk and spending time outdoors is a great January fun activity. Greenfield is full of beautiful parks and nature trails where you can take the whole family, plus your furry friends, to enjoy a winter’s sunrise or snowy afternoon. Riley Park even has a locally renowned sledding hill to enjoy your next snow day with the kids!
BOGO at Daniel’s Vineyard
Daniel’s Vineyard, located at 9061 N 700 W, McCordsville, has a weekly buy-one get-one night that happens all year-round but is especially cozy on a cold January night. Visit the vineyard on Thursday nights to buy one bottle of wine and get one free, along with live music from 5-8 p.m. Make it a full night by ordering a pizza from Daniel’s kitchen too! And this January, comedian Dave Dugan will be coming to the vineyard on Saturday, Jan. 29 for Corks & Comedy night.
Have a board game tournament
January is a great time to have a family game night at home. Get out all the old classics and teach your kids a board game that they have never played before. Or, invite over some friends and have a full-on board game tournament. If you feel like getting out of the house, visit Hitherto Coffee & Gaming Parlour, where you can purchase from their library of more than 450 titles or play one of their rental games in the store while you enjoy a hot beverage and pastry.
