You may have heard of the “Luck of the Irish,” but today we’re talking about the Luck of GREENfield! We feel so lucky to be Greenfield residents, not just because green is seen as a lucky color, but because of the many services and resources available to our local community.

1. Top-rated schools for local families

Students are lucky to attend Greenfield-Central Community Schools, which has an overall rating of B according to the Department of Education, along with multiple A-rated schools in the district including Greenfield-Central High School, Eden Elementary School, JB Stephens Elementary School, Maxwell Intermediate School and Weston Elementary School.

2. Large employers to sustain our economy

There are a number of big corporations in Hancock County that employ hundreds — or even thousands — of local residents. As a growing city, Greenfield is filled with many opportunities for our residents to find professional success in a community that they love.

3. Improvement programs like Leadership Hancock County

Leadership Hancock County is a program that brings together distinguished leaders from local organizations around the county. Their goal is to provide graduates with an increased awareness of community issues and the skills to creatively meet those challenges. Participants are also encouraged to join local boards and councils upon completion of the program.

4. Local organizations such as Greenfield Main Street

Similar to Leadership Hancock County, Greenfield Main Street is also dedicated to investing in our local community. The national Main Street Initiative seeks to bring more awareness to local downtown areas in small towns, with a focus on community events, local merchant meetings and fundraising for the preservation of downtown and its facades.

5. Numerous locations to shop small

Speaking of downtown, Greenfield’s courthouse plaza and the surrounding area is full of local businesses where you can shop small, as well as large-scale murals for visiting art lovers and residents alike to appreciate.

6. Proximity to big city advantages

Most residents enjoy the slower pace of small-town living, but the luck of Greenfield also allows residents to enjoy the advantages of a big city like our Hoosier capital. Hop in the car and after just a short 30-minute drive you can take in all of the shopping, restaurants, cultural events and sporting contests that Indianapolis has to offer.

7. Healthy living opportunities like Pennsy Trail

Greenfield is home to nine city parks, including our local Riley Pool and Splashpad, so that individuals and families always have a nice place to enjoy the outdoors. The Pennsy Trail also runs through the heart of Greenfield, giving residents a 14.5-mile asphalt rail-trail to walk or ride west into Indianapolis while enjoying historical and cultural markers along the way.

8. Local mental health resources

The community of Greenfield places value not just on physical health, but mental health as well. Our local Hancock Health network provides residents with the Healthy365 Connection Center to get connected to resources for mental wellness concerns and substance use disorders. Plus, the Hancock Health Foundation is currently raising $3.5 million to fund critical mental health support for Healthy365 and beyond.

9. A-rated local hospital

Hancock Regional Hospital is well-known for their excellent healthcare, and have received an A-rating hospital safety grade from the Leapfrog Group for the past three grading cycles since Fall 2020. Hancock Health has also recently committed to a partnership with Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital to offer an even higher level of newborn care for moderately ill infants and babies born as early as 32 weeks’ gestation at Hancock Regional Hospital.

10. Low-cost services at Gateway Health

One of the newest components of Hancock Health is its three Gateway Lab locations, with convenient blood tests/screenings, affordable CT scans, MRI scans, x-rays, and ultrasounds and quickly accessible immediate care. These many innovations from Hancock Health have helped to make our county the fifth healthiest community in the state of Indiana as of 2021.

We are really feeling the Luck of GREENfield thanks to the incredible items on this list! What makes you feel lucky to live in Greenfield?
